Put Off the Old - Put On the New

Colossians 3 ~ Christian Character & Conduct

1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
5Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.

8But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.

Character of the New Man
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

As I was in prayer this morning I felt the Lord impressing upon my heart the need to put off the old man and put on the new. The closer you get to the light, the more dark the darkness feels. Recently, I've had the chance to experience much darkness in Los Angeles California and how the riches, lusts, temptations, material things, selfish human desires of this world can be so enticing and destructive to the human soul. Yet, the Bible call us to seek those things which are above and not to set our mind on the things of this world. For we are dead to our old nature when we were baptized in Christ and we are no longer to live in the carnal lifestyle that is mentioned above. So I pray this morning we would put off the old nature, that is any evil desire, covetousness, malice, anger, lies, idolatry, wrath, filthy language, strife and that we would pray, "God we pray this day please help us together to put on LOVE and forgiveness, that we would walk with Your peace in our hearts, that we would put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering and bear with one another, forgive each other no matter what wrongs have been done to us, let us not complain towards one another, but let us forgive one another even as Christ has forgiven each of us. Keep us humble and let us walk together in peace. Let us continually praise You oh God for all things and give thanks with grace in our hearts to the Lord. May we do all things, everything in word or deed in the name of the Lord." in Jesus name amen.

I pray that each of us this day would seek Him first and trust Him to be in control. Most of all may each of us be reminded that His presence is all that we need in this life and that we would spend time loving Him and enjoying His love for us this day.

Under the mercy,

JMA

"The closer you get to the light, the more dark the darkness feels."

It is so true.. its just like a pregnant lady,.. before they give birth the bible says in rev 12.. there will always be pain and agony..

"Yet, the Bible call us to seek those things which are above and not to set our mind on the things of this world." is the answer to keep on persevering.

And the joy after she give birth is gonna be beyond comprehension.

Jaeson, love the focus of this post. Let's fix our eyes on Jesus the author and perfector of our Faith.

Thanks Jaeson, your blog encourages us all sister and brother in Christ. It's so true to say "The closer you get to the light, the more dark the darkness feels."
When I had my first long soaking time with God, I encountered nightmares and it was so real. God restores,re-affirms & revealed his words to me after my nightmares.
